MAYNARD, Mass., Sept. 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Acacia Communications (NASDAQ:ACIA), a leading provider of high-speed coherent optical interconnect products, today announced a new long-haul optical module solution as part of its AC100-CFP product family. Acacia's AC100-CFP product family was introduced in 2014 as a low power pluggable 100G optical transport solution targeted for metro and datacenter interconnect (DCI) applications.  Acacia's new long-haul CFP-DCO model is based on Acacia's latest silicon photonics integrated circuit (PIC) and offers the enhanced performance features necessary for long-haul applications.

Widely deployed in metro optical transport networks, the CFP-DCO form factor contains an internal digital signal processor (DSP) chip. Acacia's long-haul CFP-DCO module is based on the same subsystem design used on Acacia's production released CFP-DCO for power sensitive metro and DCI applications.  Acacia shipped more than 8,000 of its CFP-DCO modules during the second quarter of 2016.

In addition to improved receiver OSNR performance and 2500km of dispersion compensation, Acacia's long-haul CFP-DCO module offers 37.5GHz channel spacing and supports passive multiplexing in CDC-ROADM applications.  As a field replaceable pluggable module, Acacia's CFP-DCO can improve overall system reliability and support a pay as you grow model.

"CFP-DCOs have already been widely adopted by the metro and DCI market segments and the introduction of Acacia's long-haul CFP-DCO module allows us to expand the application space of our AC100-CFP product family," said Acacia's President and Chief Executive Officer Raj Shanmugaraj. "Our DSP and PIC technologies give us the ability to develop high density pluggable solutions, like our new long-haul CFP-DCO, that improve both power consumption and network performance."
